MELAS Epidaurus Olive Oil Domain

Lygourio near Epidaurus, Argolis, Peloponnese – since 1994

In Lygourio, close to the ancient theatre of Epidaurus on the Argolis peninsula of the Peloponnese, the Melas family has tended its own olive groves since 1994. Founded by Evangelos Melas, himself the son of a third-generation olive grower, the estate has grown into a modern, vertically integrated business with its own groves, an in-house mill and bottling line under one roof. Under the OLON brand, Melas blends selected local olive varieties into a well-balanced, cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil. The fruit is harvested and pressed the same day at temperatures below 27–30 °C, preserving aroma, vitamins and polyphenols. Alongside OLON, Melas also produces a certified organic oil and a Protected Designation of Origin oil from the local Manaki variety. Strict quality controls under ISO 22000 ensure consistently high standards.

Good to know

Store in a cool, dry place away from light, ideally at 14–18 °C. Natural sediment may occur and does not affect quality. At low temperatures the oil may turn cloudy or form flakes – a sign of genuine cold-pressed quality, not a defect; it turns clear and liquid again at room temperature. Consume within a few months of opening and keep the bottle tightly closed.
